Age Well, Glow Well: Healthy Habits and a Daily Skin Care Routine
Healthy-looking skin at any age starts with small habits repeated every day. Sun protection, gentle care and a routine you can actually keep all have a place.
Here are everyday habits dermatologists recommend, followed by a morning and evening routine with examples from the Bioelements skin care line. The right choices depend on your skin type, sensitivities and goals.
7 everyday habits for healthy aging
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends these habits to help reduce premature skin aging:
- Protect your skin from the sun. Choose broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 30 or higher. Use shade, protective clothing, a hat and sunglasses too.
- Skip the tan. Sun and tanning beds can accelerate skin aging. Self-tanner offers color without intentional UV exposure, but does not replace sunscreen.
- Don’t smoke. Smoking contributes to wrinkles and a dull complexion.
- Fill your plate with color. A balanced diet with fruits and vegetables supports healthy skin. Research suggests diets high in sugar or refined carbohydrates may accelerate aging.
- Go easy on alcohol. Alcohol can dehydrate skin.
- Move regularly. Moderate exercise supports circulation and overall health.
- Be gentle. Cleanse without scrubbing, wash after heavy sweating, and stop using products that irritate your skin.

Rest and calm matter too. Make room for a good night’s sleep and a little downtime. At Karmel’s, we believe taking time for yourself should be part of the routine.
Your daily skin care routine
A routine does not need to be complicated. Start with cleansing, moisturizing and daytime sun protection, then consider additional products based on your needs. You do not need every product below, and introducing several new products at once can make it harder to identify irritation.
These Bioelements examples can help guide a conversation about your routine. Follow each product’s directions and ask which options suit your skin.
Morning: cleanse, prep, protect
- Cleanse. Moisture Positive Cleanser is an option to discuss for dry or normal skin. Decongestant Cleanser is another option for oily skin. Choose a cleanser that leaves your skin comfortable rather than tight or irritated.
- Consider a toner mist. Power Peptide and Equalizer are options for a toner step after cleansing. Use according to the product directions; a toner is not essential for everyone.
- Brighten, if that is one of your goals. A vitamin C serum such as vc10 daily glow may be an option for addressing the appearance of dullness or uneven tone.
- Care for your eye area. If you use an eye product such as Multi-Task Eye Crème, apply gently as directed and avoid getting it in your eyes.
- Moisturize and protect. RayDefense is a broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen with moisturizing benefits. Apply generously 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply at least every two hours. Its directions call for a water-resistant sunscreen when swimming or sweating.
Always follow the sunscreen label, and combine sunscreen with shade and protective clothing. See the manufacturer’s RayDefense directions.
Evening: cleanse, care, moisturize
- Cleanse. Remove sunscreen, makeup and the day’s buildup. Sensitive Skin Cleansing Oil is an option for removing makeup. Whether you need another cleanser afterward depends on your routine and skin’s needs.
- Mist, if you use a toner. Apply your chosen toner according to its directions before the next step.
- Consider a treatment serum. Time Sensitive is a retinol-free serum formulated with bakuchiol and peptides. Ask whether it fits your skin care goals. A product designed for sensitive skin can still cause irritation for some people.
- Moisturize. Crucial Moisture is a richer option to discuss for dry skin, while Beyond Hydration offers a gel texture. Choose a moisturizer that feels comfortable and works with the rest of your routine.

Occasional extras: exfoliation and masks
You may want to add an exfoliator or mask once or twice a week, depending on your skin’s tolerance and the product directions. More is not always better, especially when you already use other treatment products.
- Exfoliate thoughtfully. Quick Refiner is a leave-on exfoliator containing alpha-hydroxy acids. Apply at night as directed and follow with moisturizer. Ask about a suitable frequency for your skin.
- Consider a mask. A product such as Radiance Rescue can be an optional addition. Follow its directions and choose based on your skin’s needs rather than adding another step automatically.
Important sun-safety note: Quick Refiner may increase sensitivity to sunlight and the risk of sunburn. Use sunscreen, wear protective clothing and limit sun exposure while using it and for one week afterward. Read the manufacturer’s directions and sunburn warning.
Let a professional help you plan your routine
Consistent home care gives you a foundation. A facial can also be a chance to discuss your skin care goals and which products or treatment steps may suit you. The right approach and appointment frequency depend on your individual needs.
